Class Descriptions

Show classes for:
Mixed-ages (0-5 yrs)

This is the essential Music Together® class, one that a child can attend from birth through age four - and through all nine song collections. Child development researchers recommend mixed-age groupings because they foster natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, and exploring musical instruments. The class provides a variety of adult-child activities that are fun and offer new ways to play musically at home. Parents, grandparents, or nanny, individually or together, may accompany the children. The whole family is welcome for this important family music experience.

Master Class for 3s/4s

Although most three and four year olds thrive in a mixed age environment, we do have another option for your family. Designed for children who've been in Music Together, this class is geared towards the older child and is structured more like a preschool classroom experience - with parent involvement. Musical activities such as rhythm improvisation, independent singing, dance improvisation, and dramatic play are integrated into the curriculum. Younger siblings are welcome to attend the 3s/4s class with their older brothers and sisters.

Rhythm Kids Pre-K (4 to 5 yrs)

In Rhythm Kids classes, we drum, sing, and move to rhythms and music from around the world. The Rhythm Kids curriculum is an international, research-based music immersion program developed specifically for families with preschoolers and early elementary students aged 4 to 8-years old. The RK Pre-K class is for children 4 to 5 years - Pre-K kids (for those who haven't yet entered kindergarten).

Rhythm Kids students learn to compose, choreograph, and conduct as they play—and play with!—djembes, other percussion instruments, and their first instruments (their voices and bodies). When parents and caregivers choose to attend class (not required), too, they not only amplify their children’s learning but also have a great time singing, moving, and drumming themselves.

Honoring both cultural traditions from around the world and all children’s birthright to develop Basic Music Competence, Rhythm Kids classes include:

  • Immersion in the rhythmic “language” of cultures from six continents (sorry, Antarctica!);
  • Playful, developmentally-appropriate music games;
  • Opportunities to lead, balanced with opportunities to collaborate;
  • Rich, creative experimentation and expression, improvisation and innovation;
  • Deep exposure to music that is both complex and fun;
  • A carefully-constructed three-year Animal Song Curriculum (from Alligators and Tree Frogs to Elephants and Kangaroos);
  • Expert teachers, award-winning materials, and a worldwide Rhythm Kids community.

Whether as a stand-alone music class or as a companion to formal instruction, Rhythm Kids helps children develop the facility, repertoire, and creativity that will allow them to unleash their own music-making potential.

The Rhythm Kids curriculum is co-authored by the developers of Music Together® and early childhood percussion expert Tom Foote.

Just for 4 to 8-year-olds, Rhythm Kids classes support the next level of music learning by capitalizing on how older children are wired to learn. Through unique music games, drumming patterns, and music from around the world, the big kids in this class collaborate, compose, choreograph, and conduct.

Mixed-ages (Bi-lingual Spanish)

This is the Music Together mixed-age class you know and love taught bi-lingually, in Spanish and English. You don't need to speak Spanish to be in this class--this is not a language immersion experience, it is exposure to the Spanish language through music experiences. The songs in each collection have been recorded in a mixture of English and Spanish, which you’ll receive as a CD and download. And, in addition to your weekly classes and the bilingual recording, you’ll receive the new English-language illustrated songbook, a booklet with the Spanish lyrics, and a family newsletter with more at-home music-making ideas that can hacer que cada día sea más divertido—make every day more fun! It's a great way to expose your children to a new language or to have a place where a bilingual family can feel at home.
